What, then, was the purpose of the Law?
The law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith.
Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.Ē

So, what good is the Law?(19-25)

The office of the Law is to show us the disease in such a way that it shows us no hope of cure; whereas the office of the gospel is to bring a remedy to those who are past hope. For the Law, since it leaves man to himself, necessarily condemns him to death; whereas the gospel, by bringing him to Christ, opens the gate of life."

- John Calvin, c. 1530
