Old Testament --

“Abram had become very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold.” (Gen 13:2)

Solomonís request (1 Kings 3)

Proverbs --

“Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.”(13:11)

“Of what use is money in the hand of a fool, since he has no desire to get wisdom?”(17:16)

“Whoever trusts in his riches will fall...” (11:28)

“A good name is more desirable than great riches...” (22:1)

Jesus --

“I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves... “You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Luke 16:13)

“I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.” (Luke 12:43)

New Testament --

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthian 9:7)

“the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” (1 Tim 6:10)

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have...” (Hebrews 13:5)

Money is like fire... Men can employ it as a tool or they can dance around it as if it were the incarnation of a god. Money votes socialist or monarchist, finds a profit in pornography or translations from the Bible, commissions Rembrandt and underwrites the technology of Auschwitz. It acquires its meaning from the uses to which it is put.”
