Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

Older than eternity, now he is new. now native to earth as I am, nailed to my poor planet, caught that I might be free, blind in my womb to see my darkness ended, brought to this birth for me to be new–born, and for him to see me mended I must see him torn.
Luci Shaw
advent is a Christian celebration stretching over the four Sundays leading up to Christmas, the birth of Jesus. People often use an advent wreath composed of four or five candles which are lit to symbolize each Sunday, with the fifth candle being lit on Christmas eve or Christmas day itself. Families can use this time to prepare themselves spiritually by reading Scripture and focusing their thoughts on the coming to earth of God’s Messiah.
