God promised Israel that He would send His Prophet and He would put His words in His mouth and they should listen to Him (Dent. 18:15-19). That Prophet of God eventually became the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 3:22-26). “In Him was life and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it... the Word became flesh and made its dwelling place among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and only who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1-5,14).
Until God's Prophet came to this earth He used many faithful prophets over the years to speak to His people about His grace and truth in the midst of a dark and corrupt world. In 874-853 BC the Ten Northern tribes of Israel were led into their darkest spiritual hour by King Ahab and his wife Jezebel. This wicked couple had given their hearts over to idolatry and were taking God's people with them. At just such a moment the one and only living God of Israel sent a prophet named Elijah to arrest the evil of idolatry with the message of His grace and truth. This is a study of God's dealings with Israel, Ahab and Jezebel as well as his own prophet Elijah. In this study we will gain a greater appreciation of God's grace, truth, love and mercy in our own lives as well as all those who live around us. Our study will cover 1 Kings 17:1-2 through 2 Kings 2:11.
